Foundational Mathematics: Set Theory and Basic Algebra

Mathematics begins with defining fundamental objects and relationships. Understanding sets and basic algebra is the crucial first step toward mastering more advanced mathematical fields like calculus, statistics, and discrete math. By the end of this course, you will be able to define, represent, and perform operations on sets, and confidently apply fundamental algebraic laws to simplify expressions and solve linear equations. What you'll learn: * Understand the precise definitions and methods of representing sets (roster and set-builder forms). * Master set operations including union, intersection, difference, and complement, and apply De Morgan's Laws. * Apply the fundamental laws of algebra (commutative, associative, distributive) to manipulate mathematical expressions. * Practice solving linear equations and inequalities using systematic algebraic techniques. * Learn to interpret and utilize Cartesian products and relations, linking set theory to coordinate geometry. This course starts with core terminology and notation, gradually building up to practical problem-solving techniques in both set theory and algebra. The text-based format emphasizes reading comprehension and structured practice. This course is designed for absolute beginners in mathematics or anyone needing a thorough review of high school level foundational topics. No prior mathematical knowledge is required.
