This has been a great starting point for my 10-year-old daughter. She's built a couple of games now -- a quiz game and one where a sprite dodges falling objects -- and she's genuinely proud of them. The lessons are clear and she can mostly work through them on her own, which is a relief for a busy parent. My one small gripe is that it moves on from some concepts a bit quickly, so we occasionally went back and reread a section. Still, she's thinking in loops and 'if this, then that' now, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Really solid introduction and my daughter enjoys it. My only wish is that there were a few more projects at the end -- she blew through them faster than I expected and wanted to keep building.
Perfect for young beginners.
My daughter went from just watching videos to actually making her own game -- that's a huge win in our house.
I teach a fourth-grade class and started using these guides for our weekly tech block. The structure is clear enough that even the kids who usually struggle to focus stay locked in, because they can watch their game come to life right away. Scratch's visual blocks take away the frustration of typing syntax, so the kids get to concentrate on the actual thinking -- sequencing, loops, cause and effect. Several parents have told me their children went home and kept building on their own. It's become the lesson my students ask for by name.
Great content, though a couple of the early steps went a little fast for my 7-year-old and I had to sit with her to keep up.
Good structured guides and my kid stayed engaged the whole time -- I just wish there were a few more challenges to keep the momentum going.
Finally something that turns screen time into learning time.
My kid loves it!
