Applied Assistive Technology: Complex Cases, AAC, and Across the Lifespan

Complex assistive technology cases require integrated reasoning across multiple device categories and life stages. This applied course teaches that reasoning through case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to support complex AAC cases, plan wheelchair seating and mobility solutions, integrate assistive technology across the lifespan, and coordinate with educational and vocational systems. What you will learn: - Frameworks for augmentative and alternative communication assessment and intervention - Approaches to wheelchair seating and positioning for postural and functional needs - Approaches to environmental controls and smart home integration - Considerations for children, adults, and older adults in assistive technology selection - Integration with educational systems including school-based assistive technology teams - Integration with vocational rehabilitation and workplace accommodations - Continuous improvement frameworks for assistive technology services The course is structured around case-based applied modules. Each module presents a complex scenario, walks through structured reasoning, and produces a written plan you compare against the worked-through example. This course is written for rehabilitation professionals deepening assistive technology practice. It does not replace supervised clinical training or specialty certification. By the end you will have structured frameworks for complex assistive technology cases.
