Foundations of Pediatric Vision and Strabismus

Pediatric vision care combines knowledge of vision development with focused assessment for amblyopia, strabismus, and refractive issues in children. This foundational course provides the base for that work. By the end of this course you will be able to describe the principles of vision development across childhood, recognize common pediatric eye conditions, identify the structure of strabismus assessment, and understand the principles of pediatric refraction. What you will learn: - Visual development milestones across infancy, toddler, and childhood years - Common pediatric eye conditions including amblyopia and refractive errors - The principles of pediatric eye examination including age-appropriate techniques - The principles of cycloplegic refraction and when it is used - The principles of strabismus assessment including ocular alignment testing - The role of vision screening in primary care and educational settings - The principles of communication with children and parents The course uses readings, developmental summaries, case examples, and reflection questions. Each module ends with applied exercises. This course is written for optometrists, ophthalmologists, orthoptists, and trainees strengthening pediatric vision foundations. It does not replace supervised clinical training or specialty mentorship. By the end you will have a structured foundation in pediatric vision and strabismus.
