Multicultural Family Life Across the Long Arc: Children's Identity, Community, and Tradition

Multicultural family life is sustained through long-term attention to children's identity, community connection, and evolving traditions. This applied course teaches that work across the long arc. By the end of this course you will be able to support children's identity across childhood and adolescence, sustain community connections to each heritage, evolve traditions thoughtfully, and handle the cross-cultural questions that recur in life. What you will learn: - Approaches to supporting children's identity across childhood and adolescence - Approaches to language maintenance across years including realistic expectations - Approaches to maintaining community connections to each heritage - Approaches to evolving traditions as children grow and family circumstances change - Approaches to recurring cross-cultural questions including dating, marriage, and life choices - Approaches to extended family relationships across generations - Approaches to your own well-being and partnership across the long arc The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: an identity support plan, a language plan, a community connections map, an evolving traditions reflection, a recurring questions framework, and a long-term reflection. This course is written for multicultural families thinking across the long arc. By the end you will have moved from negotiation around each decision to a sustained, evolving practice that supports the whole family.
