Applied children's dental care spans across ages and includes orthodontic decisions and the long-term habits that support adult oral health. This applied course teaches integrated reasoning through case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to adapt dental care across ages, navigate orthodontic and other specialty considerations, support long-term habits into adolescence, and coordinate with the dental care team. What you will learn: - Approaches to dental care across infants, preschool, school-age, and teen years - Approaches to orthodontic evaluation and decisions when relevant - Approaches to specialty care including pediatric dentistry referrals - Approaches to handling dental fears and anxious children - Approaches to supporting independent dental hygiene in older children and teens - Approaches to handling specific situations including braces, sports mouthguards, and trauma - Approaches to long-term habits that will support adult oral health The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: a developmental dental approach, an orthodontic decision framework, a specialty care plan, an anxious child support plan, an independence-building plan, and a long-term habits reflection. This course is written for parents thinking across the long arc of children's dental care. The course is informational and does not substitute for pediatric dental care.
