Applied Tween Communication: Identity, Tough Topics, and the Long Arc

Applied tween communication addresses identity, tough topics, and the long arc into teen years. This applied course teaches integrated reasoning through case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to support identity development through communication, handle tough topics that arise, navigate the long arc of communication into the teen years, and sustain trust across years. What you will learn: - Approaches to supporting identity through respectful conversation - Approaches to tough topics including body, relationships, and online experiences - Approaches to handling shutdowns and avoidance - Approaches to repair after a difficult conversation - Approaches to supporting your tween's friendships and social life through conversation - Approaches to the transition into teen years where privacy increases further - Approaches to building communication that lasts into adulthood The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: an identity support plan, a tough topics framework, a shutdown response plan, a repair practice, a social support plan, and a long-arc reflection. This course is written for parents thinking across the long arc. By the end you will have moved from year-by-year reactivity to sustained communication practice.
