Applied Tween Independence Across the Long Arc into Teen Years

Applied tween independence extends across the tween years and the teen transition. This applied course teaches integrated reasoning through case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to expand the scope of independence as your tween grows, handle setbacks and rebuilding, support major transitions including the move to middle school, and prepare for teen-year independence. What you will learn: - Approaches to expanding scope including transportation, money, and time management - Approaches to setbacks including responsibility lapses and trust ruptures - Approaches to handling specific situations including handling money badly or coming home late - Approaches to the middle school transition including the increase in autonomy - Approaches to supporting friendship and social independence - Approaches to the teen transition and the expanding scope of autonomy - Approaches to your own evolving role as parent of an increasingly independent young person The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: an expanding scope plan, a setbacks framework, a specific situations response, a middle school transition plan, a social independence plan, and a teen transition reflection. This course is written for parents thinking across the long arc. By the end you will have moved from short-term oversight to sustained scaffolding.
