What I appreciate most is that this doesn't treat the shortcuts like magic tricks to memorise, it actually explains why each one works. My daughter kept asking how the crosswise method could possibly be right, and the course had the answer laid out clearly. Compared to how I learned multiplication at school, endless repetition and long columns, this feels so much more alive. She's started spotting patterns in numbers on her own now, which I never expected. Honestly the mental speed is a nice bonus but the confidence is the real win.

The subtraction method using complements was the standout for us. My son used to line everything up on paper and get lost halfway, now he just does it in his head. Simple idea, big difference.
The crosswise multiplication method turned two-digit sums from a chore into a little game for my son.
My daughter loves the multiplication tricks.
The squaring shortcut for numbers ending in five blew my kid's mind, he does them in seconds now.
The digit-sum check for verifying an answer was the unexpected favourite here. My daughter used to hand in whatever she got and hope for the best, now she catches her own slips before I even look. It's made her a lot less dependent on me sitting next to her.
I'm not a maths person at all, so I was nervous about teaching this. The explanations are clear enough that I learned the tricks right alongside my kid. We do a short session most evenings now and both look forward to it.
My son is nine and used to dread anything involving multiplication, he'd count on his fingers and give up halfway through. We started this together about a month ago, doing one small technique at a time, and the change has been genuinely surprising. He now squares two-digit numbers faster than I can reach for a calculator, and more importantly he's stopped saying he's bad at maths. The step-by-step layout meant I never felt lost teaching it, even though I'd never heard of any of these methods before. It's become a little ritual we both enjoy.
I tutor a small after-school group and I've been pulling techniques from this into our sessions. What surprised me is how well it works as a group activity, because the methods are quick enough that the kids can race each other and nobody's left grinding away on paper while the others wait. I've had children who'd written themselves off as slow at maths suddenly be the fastest in the room on a particular trick. The written explanations are tight enough that I can read one through once and teach it the same afternoon without much prep. It's not a full curriculum and I wouldn't use it as one, but as a way to get eight and nine year olds excited about numbers it's the best thing I've found in a while.
Really useful set of shortcuts and my daughter picked up the base ones quickly. A couple of the later chapters move a bit fast though, and since it's all text we had to re-read some parts a few times to get them. Still worth going through.
Great methods, but needs plenty of practice.
Clever, fast, and honestly fun.
Lots of handy techniques here and the writing is clear. My only small gripe is the order of some topics, a few of the harder methods come before easier ones that would have made more sense first. Once you get past that it flows nicely.
The way the course breaks each sutra down into small steps is what made it work for us. My son struggled with carrying numbers before, and now he actually enjoys doing sums. It builds up slowly so nothing feels overwhelming.
The techniques are brilliant, though I wished there were a few more worked examples before each exercise set.
The times-eleven trick alone won my son over.
My son finished the mental arithmetic section of his last school test with time to spare, which has never once happened before.
I went through this with both my kids at once, eleven and seven, and it landed very differently for each. My older one took to it straight away and was doing two-digit work in his head within a fortnight. My younger one struggled, and I realised the course quietly assumes you're already solid on your basic tables, which she isn't yet. That's fair enough for the age it's aimed at, but a line saying so up front would have saved me a frustrating week. We've parked it for her and will come back in a year, and it's been excellent for him.
Mental math finally clicked for my son.
This is a strong introduction to Vedic calculation and my kids have gotten a real kick out of the speed. The methods are explained patiently and in a mostly logical order, and the mental math has genuinely improved their homework. My one wish is that there were more practice problems built in, we ended up making up our own sums to drill the techniques because the examples ran out quicker than we'd have liked. A worksheet section would round it off nicely. Beyond that we've been very happy with it.
My ten year old now beats me at adding up the grocery bill in her head.
