About this course

Want to introduce a young learner to the world of coding and computational thinking? Scratch offers a fun, visual way to grasp the core concepts of programming without needing to type complex syntax. By the end of this course, you will understand how to structure programs using sequential logic, loops, and conditional statements. You will gain confidence in translating creative ideas into working code, building a solid foundation for future programming studies in any text-based language. What you'll learn: * Understand the basics of event-driven programming and how to use sprites and backdrops effectively in Scratch. * Master control flow structures, including repetition (loops) and conditional logic (if/else statements). * Learn to use variables and lists to store data, manage scores, and create dynamic, interactive projects. * Apply computational thinking techniques to decompose complex tasks into manageable, sequential steps. * Practice essential debugging skills and effective strategies for testing and iterating on projects until they work correctly. The course begins with an exploration of the Scratch environment and core programming terminology. Lessons progress quickly from simple motion and sequencing to complex game mechanics, concluding with practical exercises to reinforce every programming concept. This course is designed for absolute beginners, including young learners (ages 8 and up) and parents seeking to support their child's introduction to coding. No prior programming experience is necessary. Start building your first interactive project today and unlock the power of coding.

Computational thinking made simple.

This gave my daughter a really solid start with coding logic. Everything is broken into small steps, so she went from just dragging blocks to actually understanding sequencing, loops and conditions without getting lost. She made a short animated story and then a simple catch-the-apple game, which she was so proud of. My only gripe is that the final projects felt a bit easy for her once she got the hang of it, and I wish there had been one bigger challenge at the end to stretch her a little more.

Good clear pace and my daughter could mostly follow on her own. A few of the screenshots looked a little different from the current version of Scratch, which confused her once or twice, but nothing we couldn't figure out together.

Really enjoyed it, I just wish there were a few more practice challenges between the lessons.

My 8-year-old built his very first little game after a couple of weeks with this. The way it introduces loops and 'if' blocks one at a time really made it click for him, and now he keeps asking to add more sprites.

I had zero coding background so I was learning right alongside my kid. The lessons start with really basic sequencing, then slowly bring in events, loops and variables, and each idea builds on the last so nothing feels like a jump. By the end he had made an interactive story where the characters actually talk to each other, and then a little maze game. Watching him debug his own project and figure out why a sprite wasn't moving was honestly the best part.

The content itself is well organised and easy to follow step by step. My only wish is that it were a bit more visual, since it's mostly written explanations and my younger one sometimes needs me to read along with her to stay on track.
