I have two very different kids, one who devours books and one who would rather do anything else, and I honestly wasn't sure a single course could help with both. It really did. The strategies are flexible enough to adapt to each child, and I loved how much emphasis there is on imagination and storytelling rather than just sounding out words. We've built a screen-free wind-down hour that both of them look forward to now. It's the calmest our evenings have been in ages.

The heart of this course is helping kids fall in love with stories, and it delivers on that beautifully. It moves from setting up a reading-friendly home to actually engaging a resistant reader, all without a single screen involved. What stuck with me was the idea of letting children see me reading for pleasure, which quietly did more than any nagging ever had. A few weeks later my daughter has started making up her own little stories at dinner.

This is a thoughtful, well-organised guide that gave me a lot to work with as a parent of a seven year old who'd lost interest in reading. The parts about creating the right environment and modelling reading yourself were especially good, and I've already seen him picking up books on his own. My one wish is that there were more material aimed at the older end of the four-to-twelve range, since a lot of the examples lean young. Even so, the underlying approach adapts fine and I'd say it was time well spent.

The section on choosing books that match a child's interests was really eye-opening and helped me stop forcing 'good' books on him. That said, a fair bit of the advice repeats itself across the later modules. Still glad I took it.
